Art & Design
The aim of the Art & Design Department is to provide all pupils with as wide a variety of creative and expressive experiences as possible within art & design to enable them to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding (unique to the subject) which makes essential contribution to the whole curriculum.
These experiences will provide pupils with opportunities for observing, recording, imagining designing, creating, communicating and appreciating.
Through participating in a wide range of art and design activities, it is hoped to enrich pupil?s sensory experiences, develop their artistic awareness, their intellectual and practical capabilities to enable them to make personal, visual and tactile responses to feelings, ideas and environments in ways appropriate to their development.
The Art & Design Department has a wide range of facilities such as:
3d Studies Area - including a computer controlled Firing Kiln for ceramics.
Darkroom facilities - Used throughout coursework and Photography Club.
Digital Imaging Facilities - Digital SLR cameras used in conjunction with Photoshop 7 and other software specific to image manipulation. The Art Department will soon be acquiring professional film scanners, bringing traditional methods up to date with digital production.
The department also runs an Art Club - The department offers extra working time to pupils preparing for GCSE or other qualifications in Art and Design. The Club is also open to those pupils wishing to explore different techniques and ideas although they may not be following a specific Art course.
