Drama
All pupils in Key Stage 3 have a double period of drama a week. The school also has a drama club which is available to all pupils and which performs an annual play.
Pupils begin their study of drama with ice-breaker games. This leads to mime and movement games and mime improvisation. After Halloween and leading to Christmas assessment pupils work on speech and voice projection. The first formal assessment is to produce and perform an advertisement for TV. The pupils write their own script direct and even create some of their own props.
After Christmas pupils carry out work on character before beginning script work. Script work includes creating sets, designing costumes, lighting, as well as rehearsal for performance. Each class performs for an audience - a very enjoyable and confidence building experience.
The Drama Club gives all pupils an opportunity to participate in live theatre. It provides invaluable experience, not just for those who like to act or dance on stage, but those who prefer working behind the scenes - including lighting stage management, sound and make-up.
A production is performed every year. Most recent productions were "Beauty and the Beast", "Things that go bump in the night" & "Grease is the word!" Topping all those productions was Oliver which filled the assembly hall for a wonderful nights entertainment.
