COURSE CONTENT
You will study
Talking and Listening where you will undertake a range of tasks that will provide opportunities to:
- Explain, describe, narrate;
- Explore, analyse, imagine;
- Discuss, argue and persuade
In a variety of formal and informal situations
Reading, where you will read:
- A complete play by Shakespeare or by another pre-1914 dramatist.
- Poetry from other cultures and traditions.
- A range of prose which shows development in plot, character, style and related aspects of prose writing.
- A range of non-fiction material, e.g. newspaper articles, brochures, diaries, travel writing, advertising material.
- Writing where students are required to:
- Explore, imagine, entertain
- Inform, explain, describe
- Argue, persuade, advise
- Review, analyse, comment
- in a variety of forms and styles of writing.
ASSESSMENT
Written Examination: 2 papers, 2 hours each 50%
Written Coursework 20%
Range of Talking and Listening activities 20%
EXAMINATIONS
You will sit 2 papers at the bend of year 12, each 2 hours in length.
COURSEWORK
You will be required to complete 4 pieces of coursework:
- Response to Poetry
- Response to pre war 1914 Drama
- Persuasive Writing
- Creative Writing
