COURSE CONTENT

 

You will study

Talking and Listening where you will undertake a range of tasks that will provide opportunities to:

  • Explain, describe, narrate;
  • Explore, analyse, imagine;
  • Discuss, argue and persuade

In a variety of formal and informal situations

 

Reading, where you will read:

  • A complete play by Shakespeare or by another pre-1914 dramatist.
  • Poetry from other cultures and traditions.
  • A range of prose which shows development in plot, character, style and related aspects of prose writing.
  • A range of non-fiction material, e.g. newspaper articles, brochures, diaries, travel writing, advertising material.
  • Writing where students are required to:
  • Explore, imagine, entertain
  • Inform, explain, describe
  • Argue, persuade, advise
  • Review, analyse, comment
  • in a variety of forms and styles of writing.

 

ASSESSMENT

Written Examination: 2 papers, 2 hours each        50%

Written Coursework                                         20%

Range of Talking and Listening activities              20%

 

EXAMINATIONS

You will sit 2 papers at the bend of year 12, each 2 hours in length.

 

COURSEWORK

You will be required to complete 4 pieces of coursework:

  • Response to Poetry
  • Response to pre war 1914 Drama
  • Persuasive Writing
  • Creative Writing
