WELCOME TO ICT
At Castle High School ICT is a valuable learning resource that is integrated into all learning areas. As ICT becomes more evident in all our lives through the use of digital technology, the pupils at Castle High School will develop the skills necessary to deal with a digital life in and beyond school.
ICT is delivered in the following ways at Castle High School:
As a discrete subject at Key Stage 3
As a discrete GCSE subject at Key Stage 4
As a cross-curricular tool at Key Stages 3 and 4.
Key Stage 3
ICT is a compulsory subject for years 8-10. Pupils have 2 discrete periods of ICT per week when they develop the knowledge and practical skills to achieve high standards in the ICT Accreditation Scheme. At the end of Y10 pupils leave Key Stage 3 with a certificate of competence in ICT. The knowledge and skills gained at Key Stage 3 is a solid foundation upon which to build during Key Stage 4.
Key Stage 4
All pupils undertake GCSE ICT Full Course at Key Stage 4 when they develop the skills and knowledge gained at Key Stage 3.
The course consists of 6 assignments worth 60%:
Multimedia Presentation
Design a Booklet
Design a Website
Using the Internet
Database
Spreadsheet
and 2 theory exams worth 40%.
The GCSE course will prepare pupils for life and work in a society where technology is ever changing and the skill to manage information is increasingly becoming more important.
Digital Technology
Digital technology is an integral part of the Revised Curriculum and at Castle High School pupils undertake cross-curricular projects that provide opportunities to learn and use up-to-date digital technology. Pupils are encouraged to look at a wide range of careers related to ICT and the use of digital technology widens this horizon.
